Dr. hab. Eng. Zbigniew Karaczun, professor at the Department of Environmental Protection and Dendrology at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW).
He conducts research on climate and ecological policy, the integration of their goals into agricultural policy and economic development strategies, as well as the process of Europeanization of Polish environmental protection policy and environmental management. He is the author and co-author of over 350 publications. In the 1990s, he was an advisor to the Ministry of Finance on the introduction of environmental procedures in export credit insurance and on the inclusion of environmental criteria in the privatization of large industrial plants (including heavy chemicals, KGHM, Bogdanka Mine, Gdańsk Refinery). From 1998 to 2002, he was an advisor on European integration at the Ministry of the Environment. From 2015 to 2015 and 2019 to 2020, he was the substantive manager of the team preparing the Environmental Protection Program for the city of Warsaw.
He collaborates on environmental projects with organizations such as FAO, USAID, the World Bank, and the European Commission. In 1994, he co-founded the Climate Action Network Central and Eastern Europe (CAN CEE), and from 1994 to 1998, he served as its director. He is a co-founder of the Climate Coalition and has been the managing expert of the Climate Coalition Secretariat since 2003. He is also a member of the Board of the Polish Ecological Club and the president of its Mazovian District.
